Dr. Groovy and the Soul Surgeons is a not-for-profit
rock-and-roll band with a mission to provide entertainment for charitable
causes.
The band started in 1996 as the "House band" for
the Sock Hop, a benefit to support La Porte's
crisis pregnancy center. This dance,
paying homage to the sock hops of the 50’s, has become a La
Porte tradition offering a family event in which
adults and their children can share the dance floor for an evening of fun. Currently, the Sock Hop is supporting the
local service organization, Tri Kappa.
After that first dance, the band members realized a shared
love for the music and a great new friendships going forward to the
present. We feel blessed to be able to
entertain in the service of others while having an absolute blast in the
process. Thus far we have been involved
in charity projects which have grossed over $250,000 (which for us was little
work and a lot of fun).
What sort of music to play?
Everything from the Beatles to Linda Ronstadt, from Chicago
to Earth Wind and Fire, from Wilson Pickett to Motown.
